Aims and Objectives
The Level 2 & 3 Introductory Certificate in First Line Management
aims to give practicing or potential Managers the foundation for their
formal development in this role. The programme has two primary objectives:
- To assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a Manager
- To develop basic management skills
- To develop basic management skills
The unique nature of the Introductory Certificate in First Line Management means that it may be:
- Tailored to the needs of individuals and organisations, by selecting from the full range of material which comprises the Certificate in First Line Management
- Designed as a step towards the Certificate in First Line Management
with completed segments credited towards it Entry Requirements
Programme Content
The ILM Certificate in First Line Management is a 6-9 month structured
programme. Learners are required to study four segments:
- Problem Solving Skills
- Planning Change
- Using Information for Decisions plus
- At least a further seven segments selected from the full module range available in the Certificate in First Line Management
Learning methods include Induction, Skills Workshops, Self-study, Work-Based Assignment,Tutorials, Review Workshops and Personal Development Records.
Outcomes
On successful completion of the programme candidates will be awarded
the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Introductory Certificate
in First Line Management.

To be eligible for this programme you should be either a practicing
or an aspiring first-line manager. Whilst there are no formal educational
requirements, you should have a background that will enable you to
benefit from the programme.

The ILM Certificate in First Line Management is a 16 month structured
programme. Learners are required to study ten modules:
- Managing Self
- Management Skills and Competency
- Understanding Organisations
- Managing Change
- Managing Activities
- Managing Resources
- Developing People
- Managing People
- Communication
- Managing Information
