CHANGE MANAGEMENT

Change Management

Why Change?

Change is a constant requirement and our need, as citizens of the world, to change our lives, thinking, habits and values are always under attack. We all baulk at wanting to change, and are please if the other party or neighbour changes their position but in reality we all have to change all the time!

Change Management - PlatoThere is nothing new about change

Heraclites the Greek philosopher commented that ...'Nothing is permanent but change' and Winston Churchill said that.'To improve is to change, to be perfect is to change often'

Socrates the Greek philosopher created the law of Cause and Effect. He stated that if there is a cause or a reason then that would cause an effect somewhere else.

The Law of Cause and Effect says that everything happens for a reason. For every effect in your life, there is a cause, or series of specific, measurable, definable, identifiable causes.

Consider the Ripple effect from throwing stones into a fish pond. There is not just a big splash but also waves and then ripples on the surface of the water that reach from the centre to the edge in seconds.

It is the speed of change that challenges us all.

12 O'Clock High Flim Review

Made in 1949 when the rawness of the conflict was still felt keenly by all, it tells the story of one man's role in the turnaround of a squadron of US air-force bomber pilots in 1942.

It is raw because he, Gregory Peck, is not perfect and he makes mistakes but his change management achieves great things. A sense of morale and team spirit and a leadership style that is kindness with a iron fist!

Watch it and see how Gregory Peck changes the attitudes of his men. This is a very male forces film but the metaphors are as appropriate today as they ever were and are appropriate for the difficult situation we now find ourselves in 2010.

Note that changes he makes when he arrives at the base, how he divides in order to bring everyone together, and the price that is always paid by anyone who gets seriously involved in turning around a difficult situation.

Buy or rent it on DVD. Remember many films are often available through your local library!
